MPs' Expenses Scrutinized


3rd February 2011: The newly appointed IPSA was criticized today by Sir George Young, the Leader of the House of Commons, for being confusing and impeding. This graphic, styled like an IPSA report, highlighted some of the accepted and refused claims.

Egypt Protests



29th January 2011: Egyptians across Egypt took to the streets to protest against the ruling President Mubarak resulting in violent clashes with the police and army. I created an animation which was used in the studio videowall at the top of the program to brand the stories about the conflict. I also created a variant map style which was used in the videowall during live explainer graphics.

Andy Coulson Resigns


21st January 2011: Andy Coulson, the governments director of communications, decided to resign today over continuing allegations of illegal phone hacking at the News of the World newspaper whilst he was Chief Editor. I created a sting and studio wall animation which was used to introduce the varying packages on the story.

Local TV



19th January 2011: The government has approved proposals for the creation of 80 new local television channel to broadcast to the regions. I created a simple logo which was used as an opening device, a piece to camera and a transition between shots for Cathy Newmans package.

Australian Floods Weather System


12th January 2011: This graphic tried to explain the weather system which causes irregular El Nino and La Nina systems which in turn can cause flooding in east coast Australian and west coast South America. It was used live in the studio to accompany Julian Rush as he explained the conditions needed.

The Bank Bonus Lottery



11th January 2011: Banks in the city were set to pay up to £7 billion in bonuses to staff in January and the government warned them to show restraint. I created a 3D lottery ball selector which was used a couple of times within the package to illustrate the apparent 'lottery of bonuses' depending on each bank.

Proposed Immigration Cap


23rd November 2010: The Government announced the number of migrant workers coming to Britain from outside the EU will be cut by a fifth and capped at 21,700 from next year. I helped Gary Gibbon explain the current and proposed figures using histograms on the lawn outside Westminster.

Ireland Debt Crisis


18th November 2010: Ireland moved closer to accepting an EU-backed bailout to stabilise the economy. This graphic used a 3D shape of Ireland and piles of Euro coins as a background for the debt figures being discussed.

Royal Wedding Announced


16th November 2010: Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement on this day and I created a short animation to be played in the studio and at the beginning of the packages covering the story.

Train Fare Rises


23rd November 2010: At the end of 2010 proposals were announced to increase rail fares by 6.2% and this graphic showed the consequence to some popular commuter journeys within the UK.

Xbox Kinect Release


9th November 2010: This graphic was contained within a package by Benjamin Cohen about the release of the Xbox Kinect, the hands-free gaming device that works with Xbox 360s. It illustrated the market share of gaming consoles over recent years.
