NHS Salami Slicing


24 January 2012: MP's have criticised government reform which is forcing NHS managers to 'salami slice' services in an attempt to cut costs. We created a salami which we sliced to reveal, one by one, the services which are facing 'the chop.'

Fat Cats Boardroom


23 January 2012: The business secretary Vince Cable has announced proposals to give shareholders more power and increase transparency in executive pay. We created a graphic using the 'fat cat' metaphor to front the piece and explain the measures.

Leap Seconds


18th January 2012: Countries are trying to decide whether to scrap the 'leap second' and introduce new ways of measuring time in sync. We tried to explain the concept of how the Atomic clocks, used to measure time, add or subtracted a 'leap second' occasionally to keep the time accurate.

France Loses AAA Ranking


14th January 2012: France's prime minister has tried to downplay the fact that the country has had its credit rating downgraded from AAA. We used a fan of flags to show other countries that have been downgraded or have low ratings.

Alzheimers Trials


12th January 2012: Airing on the 16th of January this story followed a group of Colombian families blighted by Alzheimers who travelled to the US where the hope is that a new study could help those suffering from the condition. This graphic explained the procedure involved in highlighting the presence of Alzheimers in the brain.

Defence Cuts


18th July 2011: Defence Secretary Liam Fox has been accused of cutting troop numbers in favour of reservists. This graphic moves around simple camouflage elements which layout the figures involved.

Catholic Clerical Abuse


6th July 2011: The Roman Catholic Church is arguing in court that it is not responsible for sexual abuse committed by its priest This graphic shows the geographic spread of incidents in the UK.

Care Payment Cap Tarot



4th July 2011: Elderly people receive council-funded home help or care home places if they own less than £23,250 in assets. However a new report recommends that this should be increased to £100,00 to reflect the increase in house prices over the last 20 years. We used a Tarot reading setup to reveal the predicted figures.

Osborne Worries


16th June 2011: Ed Balls, the Shadow Chancellor, has called for George Osborne to cut VAT to stimulate consumer spending. We used 'thought clouds' above George Osborne's head to show the specific economic declines he would be worrying about and made his eyes look gradually more tired under the stress.

Google Admits to Phishing


2nd June 2011: Phishing is used by hackers to steal information such as passwords and usernames from internet users. Google has admitted that US officials, military personnel, journalists and major US defence contractors have been hacked by Chinese hackers using such methods. This graphic tried to explain the principles of 'phishing' using digital fish!

Sepp Blatter FIFA Inquiry


27th May 2011: FIFA President Sepp Blatter is to appear before the ethics committee of football's governing body to answer charges he knew about alleged cash payments. This graphic used 'Top Trump' playing cards to illustrate the connections of the people involved.

Osama Bin Laden Killed in Raid


3rd May 2011: Osama Bin Laden was shot dead by US special forces after a raid on a fortified complex in a wealthy suburb of Abbottabad. This graphic recreated the night time raid, involving helicopters and armed soldiers.

20th April 2011: The High Court has ruled against the British Bankers Association's challenge over new FSA regulation regarding the sale of Payment Protection Insurance. This graphic explained the principle of PPI and the timeline of events so far using a treasure chest to represent the scheme.

Gastric Band Operation Explainer


13th April 2011: A review by surgeons has claimed 'Bariatric Surgery' should be more widely available because it can help with diseases such as diabetes and not just obesity. The number of procedures is on the increase and this graphic, played out live with the presenter, explains the two different procedures available.

Social Mobility Jobs Ladder


5th April 2011: Nick Clegg has announced a new social mobility strategy which will give everyone a fair chance in their working life. We used moves around an environment of ladders reveal and remove points which explain the difficulties young people from working class backgrounds have getting middle class jobs.

Gaddafi Family Travel Ban


27th February 2011: The U.N. have placed an international travel ban on close family and associates of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. In this graphic we used a simple family tree diagram to highlight the most well known members of this group.

HS2 Train Noise


22nd February 2011: The argument continues over the pro's and cons of the HS2 high speed rail link from London to Birmingham. This graphic showed the potential noise pollution which could be inflicted on households along the route.
